Laxmi serves Vishnu, the God of sustenance. No wealth is useful if it is locked away and not utilized in projects that facilitates, employment. Money in circulation, leads to economic benefits and sustains society. This is the responsibility of Lord ‘Vishnu’. Hence, iconography shows that Laxmi serves Vishnu as she compliments the role of Lord Vishnu’s in taking care of the people.
She sits on a Big Lotus flower and carries a Lotus, the symbol of prosperity, grandeur and happiness.
Owl is her vehicle. An owl only can move his neck 360 degrees enabling it to see opportunities and dangers around. The owl strikes the opportunities in the dark and discovers the unseen. It grabs the prey speedily without making any noise. All these are key attributes of a successful businessman.
Goddess Laxmi is worshipped on the festival of Deepawali in all part of India along with lord Ganesh and Sarasvati on either side. This is for good investment, security of wealth, knowledge and wisdom.
